Rooms and doors of Amsterdam Zuidoost
Hotels near the arena are modern and large, with lifts, keycards and desks staffed through the night. On event nights their lobbies fill with concert-goers and football supporters until well after midnight, and a visitor walking through is completely anonymous. The rooms are standard business hotel rooms: large beds, good showers and blackout curtains. Rental apartments in the surrounding neighbourhoods range from high-rise flats with long views to newer low-rise homes. Outside event nights, the boulevard is quiet after the shops close, and the residential streets are calm. The metro and the train connect Zuidoost to the centre and to Zuidas quickly, which is why many visitors attending a concert choose a hotel here rather than in the old city. After a show that ends at eleven, many of them are back in their rooms within fifteen minutes, still restless from the music. On quieter nights the district changes character completely, and the hotels near the boulevard become calm business addresses with half-empty bars and long, silent corridors, which some visitors prefer to the busy streets of the old city.
